Keeley Hazell named as a Hero of Year by Tory Party

As people reading Iain's blog will have seen, the Conservative Party has just made an announcement about its Environmental "Heros and Zeros" of the year. Clearly the person most deserving on the list is Keeley Hazell. A local girl from Lewisham too. Her work for the environment in going green and offering us lots of helpful tips definitely deserves recognition. I wonder if she'll come out canvassing with us in South East London?

Oh yes, there were some other minor celebrities on the list too like Former Vice-President Al Gore (why?) and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I must admit I've never heard of her, I can see why you have posted a nice big pic of her!

If this what getting into politics means, I'm all for it.

Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention to your text, but apart from taking her clothes off what did Kelly actually do to help the environment in 2006?

ellee.. I had to reduce that image too.. the original was 5000 pixels wide.

PT... she told us all to have sex in the dark to save energy, said that we should cycle more instead of driving which has the added bonus of making you buff, and said that she refuses to have her picture taken with anything other than a digital camera because of the environmental impact traditional film processing has. She also was painted green and was pictured next to her tip She took green issue to the masses on Page Three.

Personally I'd be more than happy to give her an award simply because she's unbelievably gorgeous. However, that's just me being a traditional bloke who has no problem with reading the Sun or Daily Star.

Dizzy, I am impressed. You got round to reading the article as well as looking at the pictures!

Actually, forgetting all the "glam" stuff for the moment (which doesn't impress me anyway -- but then I'm just odd!) if via one of the most popular pages (I am told) of the widest-circulation newspaper has become a good vehicle for carrying such a message, then that's fair enough. If the lady concerned is -- as the accounts indicate -- a conscientious practitioner and encourager of green-ness, then that is even better.

It is only through leading by example that attitudes and practices can be changed. Now, whether or not one is entirely or even partially in tune with what is being pushed on this whole issue, the underlying principle of minimising one's own detrimental impact on the planet is vitally important -- literally! We cannot live here without the world being able to provide all that we need, especially air and food.

As Asimov always maintained, population level was and is the single biggest concern, as the planet is finite and every additional birth is a "double whammy" -- increasing need while taking free (oxygen-producing) space away as well.

That is why I have no offspring -- well, okay, plus the fact that I cannot get involved in the (apparently necessary) process anyway...

Bottom line is that I for one support this "hero" declaration, even though I had never heard of this person before today. We need more of the right kind of attitude for now, and hopefully a realisation that population control (and significant reduction) is becoming unavoidable. The Chinese have already faced this question, and now it is the turn of the rest of the world.
