£327,000 on escalator feature that doesn't work?

Back in April I posted about the new escalators in Portcullis House that would have a fancy motion detector and were costing the taxpayer £327,000. Well the good news is that they're in. The bad news is that the motion sensitivity featurem which is what they were bought for to save energy is currently turned off.

Why? Well apparently it's a precautionary measure because the compent that does it is known to be faulty in other escalators systems. They're hoping to turn it on next month, but the cynic in me wonders if that will actually happen.

They have motion sensitive escalators everywhere on the continent, why is it so hard to get them working here?
